The climate in Tajikistan
Tajikistan has a pronounced continental climate. Hot and dry in summer, cold in winter. The highest temperatures are reached in the lower areas (half of the country is covered with mountains higher than 3,000 metres) with, at the height of summer, (July) an average of 48 °C. In January the mercury drops well below zero. These are extreme temperature fluctuations which are typical of a continental climate. Most rain falls in winter, but this doesn’t amount to much.
