The climate in Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan is a fairly flat land situated to the east of the Caspian Sea. It has an extreme continental climate. The temperature fluctuations within 24 hours and within a year are gigantic. In July, it can be 40 °C in the Karakum desert. In January the mercury drops to round 5 degrees. At the height of summer the night and daytime temperatures can easily vary by as much as 20 degrees. There is not much rainfall. The rain it does get, falls between December and May, but not more than 25 mm. In summer it is bone dry. Best travel period is the European spring or autumn.
