The climate in Portugal
Portugal has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. In Faro, in the Algarve, it is 30 °C in summer and 17 °C in winter. On the coast, the sea breeze has a moderating influence. Striking in Portugal is the huge difference in rainfall between winter (where in many places there is 120 mm per month), and summer with almost no rain whatsoever. Especially in the mountainous north and on the coast, the variation in seasonal precipitation is greatest. May and September are the best months to travel.
