The climate in Russia
Russia has a continental climate. Winters are cold and dry. In the European part temperatures of -20 °C are quite normal. It gets seriously cold however in Asian Russia. In the north-east, Siberia, the thermometer regularly drops to -40 °C, but -60 is also possible. In many places there is snow from late November to April. In the area around Moscow winter sports are particularly popular. Spring is brief in Russia. The summer begins in June and ends in August. The further south you go the warmer it gets. In the Black Sea area in summer it is often 30 °C or more. Most precipitation falls in June and July. Heading east it gets drier and drier.
